  • Presentation

Graduated in Biology at the University of Seville in 2000, I did my PhD in estuarine ecology at ICMAN between 2002 and 2008. I did two postdoctoral stays at Bangor University (Wales) and three more in Spain at IFAPA-Toruño, IEO-Cádiz and ICMAN-CSIC where I finally obtained a position as distinguished researcher in 2017. During my scientific career in aquatic ecology, I have focused my research on coastal ecology at individual, population and community level, especially in the field of ecology, taxonomy and biology of decapod crustaceans, population genetics and food webs. During the last 20 years (long-term series for 20 years) I have addressed questions of estuarine ecology of marine juveniles; larval development and phenotypic female-larval relationships; the ecology of alien species; anthropogenic impacts on coastal waters. My work is field-oriented combined with experimental and ecophysiological studies.

I am a marine biologist specialising in aquatic ecotoxicology. I studied Biology at the University of Salamanca and later I did two masters, one of them in Marine Biology at the University of A Coruña and the other one in Toxicology, Contamination and Environmental Health at the University of Valencia. I did my Master's thesis in Marine Biology at CEAB-CSIC (Blanes), where I studied histology and reproduction of gorgonians and hexactinellid sponges; and my Master's thesis in Toxicology at ICMAN-CSIC (Cádiz) studying the toxicity of silver in bivalves. I participate in the CreMar project (Operational Programme Feder and Junta de Andalucía), which studies the impact of sun creams in coastal areas of Andalusia and in the BrEStress project (National Programme for Research), which studies environmental stress in aquatic ecosystems due to pollution through the response of habitat selection and how to include these tests in environmental risk studies. I have experience in field work and have developed scientific diving tasks.
