I graduated from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona and obtained my PhD at the Institut für Seenforschung (Germany). After stays in several centres in the Netherlands and Germany, I joined the ICM in 1994, where I am a Senior Scientist.
Since my PhD my area of expertise is the study of bacterial diversity and function to gain a better understanding of organic matter degradation processes in marine ecosystems. I have published more than 100 papers and led more than 10 national and European projects.
In addition to my scientific tasks, I consider it of utmost importance to disseminate scientific knowledge to society, so I have trained a large number of students and I carry out scientific dissemination activities. In recent years, management positions, such as the vice-presidency of the Societat Catalana de Biologia, or international assessment and assessment are also part of my activities.

Graduated in Biology at the University of Malaga and postgraduate in Science Communication at the University of Vic, I am dedicated to scientific and institutional communication at the Institut de Ciències del Mar since 2016, being since 2018 the main responsible for these tasks. As head of the Outreach and Communication Unit of the Institute of Marine Sciences, my work consists of the design, coordination and implementation of activities and projects for the promotion of marine scientific culture and I have experience in the dissemination of scientific results to society through the press and social networks; and in the coordination of education, science outreach and citizen science projects.

Research Professor at the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas He currently works at the Institute of Marine Sciences in Barcelona where he has created the Marine Benthos Ecology Group and the Biology of Gelatinous Zooplankton Group. Previously, he was a temporary lecturer in the Department of Ecology at the University of Barcelona. For the last 40 years he has worked in different fields of marine ecology. He has focused part of his work on the training of young students both as Prof. of Ecology at the University of Barcelona, as well as teaching postgraduate courses, conferences, organising international congresses, fairs and exhibitions, workshops and training stays for students and PhDs. He has developed research projects in the Mediterranean, Antarctica, South Pacific and North Atlantic. The most current research topics focus on determining the role of benthic communities, especially those dominated by suspensivorous organisms, in the biogeochemical cycles in coastal and continental shelf ecosystems, the role of benthic communities as boundary systems in the theoretical framework proposed by Professor Ramón Margalef, and on developing the scientific basis for improving the conservation and management of the marine environment. In the Mediterranean, the main topics are the study of continental shelf and slope communities and jellyfish proliferations.

Degree and PhD in Biology from the University of Barcelona. She works at the Institut de Ciències del Mar (CSIC) where she combines research and scientific dissemination. Her research focuses on the study of marine microalgae communities in the Mediterranean, specifically on the species that produce Harmful Algal Blooms (HAB). She is interested in the impact of HABs on the ecosystem and human health, as well as the impact of humans on the coastal ecosystem. In 2018 he expanded his area of study to polar ecosystems, studying the role of Antarctic phytoplankton in ocean-ice-atmosphere interactions. In the field of scientific dissemination, she is a member of the Marine Scientific Culture Committee of the ICM-CSIC and of the Interdisciplinary Thematic Platform POLARCSIC. She is coordinator of the project "PlanctON: motor of life on the ocean planet" (https://plancton.science/computer.html) which has generated multiple educational resources, and of the project "WHO is there?" which seeks new sampling solutions for plankton observations in situ. She has coordinated the writing and content of some oceanographic campaign blogs, websites, articles and educational videos and has participated in several educational projects. She is co-editor of the book Observando los polos (Editorial CSIC and Catarata, 2021).

Graduate in Chemistry and Biochemistry from the University of Barcelona. She works in the Marine Microbial Ecology group at the Institute of Marine Sciences (CSIC) focusing on the application of molecular techniques to decipher the identity of marine microorganisms in different marine habitats. In this regard, she has conducted campaigns in the Arctic, Antarctic and Atlantic oceans and in the Mediterranean and Baltic Seas and is co-author of 42 scientific publications. In the field of scientific dissemination, she is a member of the Marine Scientific Culture Committee of the ICM-CSIC and of the Interdisciplinary Thematic Platform POLARCSIC. She has coordinated the writing and content of some oceanographic campaign blogs (ICM DIVULGA and DIGITAL CSIC), and the exhibition dONes: motor de la recerca marina i ambiental. She has participated in several educational projects such as MAGNET (Bofill Foundation) and RESBIOS (EU SWAFS). She is co-editor of the book Observando los polos (Editorial CSIC and Catarata, 2021) and has collaborated in the Art&Sci field, such as the mural Bosc Ancestral (Anna Rierola) or the artist books _north pole_south pole and PANTONE POLAR (Mercè Soler).
