Ocean Night is a project promoted by CSIC marine research centers.

MEDITERRANEAN INSTITUTE FOR ADVANCED STUDIES

IMEDEA

The Mediterranean Institute for Advanced Studies (IMEDEA) is a joint research centre between the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) and the University of the Balearic Islands (UIB) whose objective is to carry out high quality scientific and technical research in the area of Natural Resources, with special emphasis on interdisciplinary research in the Mediterranean area. The general objective is to contribute to the advancement of knowledge in critical and strategic areas, as well as to the improvement of the quality of life of European citizens and, in particular, those of the Balearic Islands. We study to identify and clarify the causes, mechanisms and anthropogenic and Global Change impacts that threaten marine, coastal and island environments, while favouring active, integrated and adaptive knowledge in support of the prevention and mitigation of these impacts.
INSTITUTE OF MARINE SCIENCES

ICM

The Institut de Ciències del Mar (ICM) is the fourth largest research institute of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) and the largest dedicated to marine research. Under the motto "Marine Research for a Healthy Planet", the ICM carries out frontier research and promotes the transfer of knowledge and technology on issues related to the interaction between ocean and climate, the conservation and sustainable use of marine life and ecosystems, and the mitigation of natural and anthropogenic impacts. In-depth knowledge, decisive action and coordinated management are essential to address these global challenges, thus advancing the sustainable development of humankind.
CENTRE FOR ADVANCED STUDIES IN BLANES

CEAB

The Centre for Advanced Studies of Blanes (CEAB) focuses its research activity on the fields of ecology and biology of organisms in both marine systems and inland waters. The research carried out is aimed at identifying the diversity of organisms and understanding their functions and interactions in nature, as well as the application of this knowledge in the rational use and management of our planet's resources and the prediction of responses to environmental modifications. To this end, a wide range of studies and approaches are used, ranging from the biochemical and genetic composition of organisms to the structure and dynamics of populations and ecosystems.
INSTITUTE OF MARINE SCIENCES OF ANDALUSIA

ICMAN

The Andalusian Institute of Marine Sciences is located in the University Campus of Río San Pedro, in Puerto Real (Cádiz). It has two departments. The Marine Biology and Aquaculture Department has as its main objective the generation of knowledge on the biology of aquatic animals of commercial interest. The Department of Ecology and Coastal Management includes two research groups: Oceanography of Ecosystems and Ecotoxicology, Ecophysiology and Biodiversity of Aquatic Systems. Both aim to understand the physical and biological mechanisms of coastal ecosystems and their application in coastal protection.
MARINE RESEARCH INSTITUTE

IIM

The Instituto de Investigacións Mariñas of the CSIC in Vigo is a research centre focused on ocean sustainability. With three Transversal Research and Innovation Programmes (TRIPs), the IIM-CSIC stands out for its interdisciplinary study of the marine environment, its life, its conservation and the extraction, safety, traceability and circularity of its resources. Wishing to establish itself as a reference in the study and promotion of Scientific and Oceanic Culture, the IIM works from its Scientific Culture Unit, reinforcing the dialogue between science and society, through dissemination actions, sci-art projects, training, institutional communication and research in the field of Science, Technology and Society (STS).
