Degree in Biology and PhD in Animal Ecology from the University of Barcelona. I have done 20 months of pre-doctoral stays and 28 months of post-doctoral stays in international centres such as ISEM and CEFE (CNRS, Univ. Montpellier, France), the Univ. of Glasgow (UK), Univ. of Ferrara (Italy), MUSE (Trento, Italy), Univ. Colorado-Boulder (USA), NTNU (Trondheim, Norway) and UC Davis (California, USA). I am currently a senior scientist at CEAB (CSIC). The focus of my work encompasses three main areas: (i) conceptual, to advance demographic understanding of the impact and responses of individuals and populations to biotic and abiotic perturbations and how these govern population dynamics, (ii) methodological, developing new statistical tools in animal demography, and (iii) applied, providing scientific advice to managers for biodiversity conservation. I carry out long-term monitoring of several seabird species, and I have collaborated with many national and international researchers, analysing demographic data of many species with different life history traits (such as butterflies, sea turtles or brown bears) and subject to different disturbances.

I graduated in Biology from the Universitat de Barcelona in 2008, and my innate curiosity for the natural world led me to do a doctoral thesis at the CEAB on the ecology of marine plants in the Mediterranean, which I defended in 2013. During my postdoctoral stage (2015-2018) at the School of Ocean Sciences (Bangor University, Wales, UK) I focused on trying to understand the effect of coastal marshes as protectors of the coastal zone.
I am interested in ecology in a broad sense, although the research I have done so far has mainly focused on the study of the factors that confer resilience to coastal vegetation ecosystems, and on community ecology, particularly plant-herbivore interactions. In recent years I have been incorporating new points of view, such as the study of past ecosystems (palaeoecology), or the integration of the social component in ecological studies. This last aspect is increasingly taking on a cross-cutting nature in the studies I carry out.

With a degree in biology from the University of Girona, my research career has focused on the study of marine sponges from different perspectives such as chemical ecology, the effects of pollution and population genetics. Currently, I coordinate the Outreach and Science Education Area, organising activities to promote scientific culture and to inform society about the research carried out at the CEAB. In addition, I work to bring science and research closer to the educational world. I have coordinated and participated in teacher training in the 'Escoles Tàndem' programme, an educational innovation project linked to science at the Mossèn Joan Batlle school in Blanes. For the last 5 years I have been coordinating the educational part of Microplastic Watchers, a project of the citizen science platform Observadores del Mar, of which I am part of the coordination team. Since 2021 I have been part of the CEAB's driving team within the 'Aliances Magnet' programme with the Rocagrossa Institute in Lloret de Mar, the aim of which is to create links between science and the school's educational programme.

After graduating in Biology, I specialised in marine ecology with the International Master in Oceanography and Marine Environmental Management at the University of Barcelona. In 2017 I finished my PhD on interactions of dinoflagellate protist parasites causing harmful algal blooms at the Institute of Marine Sciences of Barcelona. In 2018-2020, I obtained a Newton International Fellowship from the Royal Society (UK) to develop my own postdoctoral project at the University of Exeter to study protist-parasite interactions at the cellular and molecular level. In 2020, I was awarded a postdoctoral research contract at the University of Oxford to generate reference genomes of UK protist diversity as part of the international Darwin Tree of Life project. Recently, I won a grant within the Beatriu de Pinós programme awarded by the Generalitat de Catalunya to work as a post-doctoral researcher at CEAB-CSIC for the next three years (2022-2025). My project aims to advance the knowledge of marine and food-borne diseases caused by the protist pathobiome associated with benthic invertebrates in mollusc aquaculture.

I defended my doctoral thesis in 1991 (soft-bottom macroinvertebrates of Els Alfacs Bay) and did a postdoc at the Observatoire Océanologique de Banyuls. I then joined the CEAB, where I obtained a post as Senior Scientist in 1997 and as Research Scientist in 2006, where I do research on the taxonomy, biology, ecology and behaviour of soft-bottom benthic macroinvertebrates, particularly polychaete annelids and symbiont species. I have described more than 75 new species of polychaetes, cumaceans, bivalves and protozoans. I have participated in 44 research projects and 16 research and knowledge transfer contracts with private companies. I have published 182 articles and book chapters (124 in SCI journals), participated in 68 congresses, having presented 101 communications and been editor of two special volumes in Scientia Marina and Progress in Oceanography.In addition to research, I have been long involved in management, having been Deputy Director (2000-2002), Director (2002-2014) and Head of the Marine Ecology Department (2014-10/2021) of CEAB, where I am now Scientific Director of the Biological Collections. I have been an invited member of the Administrative Committee of Laboratoire Arago (2005-2014) and I am currently a member of the General Assembly (as CSIC representative) and of the Steering Committee of EuroMarine and CSIC representative in the Marine Biodiversity Working Group of the Interministerial Commission for Marine Strategies of the Ministry of Science and Innovation. I have supervised five national and international doctoral theses and 14 national and international bachelor's, master's, DEA and student internships. I have also taught Master courses at the University of Barcelona and I am a member of PhD Commissions (2013-2016: UdG, Ciència i Tecnologia de l'Aigua; 2012-present: UB/UPC/CSIC, PhD in Marine Sciences). In addition, I regularly participate in numerous outreach activities for the general public, as well as for students at all levels.

I have a degree in Geology (2013) and a Master in Water Resources Management (2015) from the University of Barcelona (UB). Later, I did a postgraduate course in Scientific Communication organised by the University of Vic and the company Eduscopi (2019). Since the end of 2020 I am the Communication Technician at CEAB. My tasks include the development of institutional and corporate material, the management of external communication (through the web, social networks and other channels), the internal communication of the centre (through mail and/or internal newsletters) and the support to the researchers of the centre in the realization of seminars or technical conferences. In the Communication Department we also manage the relationship with the media and prepare the necessary press releases to communicate science and the most relevant results of the centre.

I graduated in Biology (2018) from the UB and later did a master's degree in Oceanography and Marine Environmental Management at the same university. During those years I also collaborated in different projects through the ULPGC. These covered various lines of research such as biogeographical studies with marine phanerogams, ecology and ethology of crustaceans and scientific dissemination with emblematic species. Later I worked as a senior technician at CEAB-CSIC in population genomics and biogeography studies, where I am now doing my PhD with an FPI grant. My current line of research focuses on solving how populations interact and doing biodiversity analysis in anthropised environments (e.g. harbours and rafts). To do this, I use metagenomics tools, specifically metabarcoding, which allow me to quickly detect invasive species and parasites, study how the main taxonomic groups fluctuate temporally and even see the genetic variability within the same species.

I am currently a PhD student studying ecosystem functioning and trophic interactions to understand the role of sponges in the western Mediterranean at the Institute of Marine Sciences and the Centre for Advanced Studies of Blanes, CSIC. The study of the role of sponges through in situ experiments and seasonal monitoring campaigns will contribute to a better understanding of the functioning of these habitats, deepen the possible causes and consequences of biodiversity loss and, therefore, to identify appropriate management strategies to mitigate the effects of climate change.
Graduated in Biology (2011) and Master in Environment and Marine Resources (2017) I have participated in several research projects on Marine Ecology, Monitoring and Conservation, as well as in socio-environmental systems studies connecting ecosystem services, natural capital and human well-being, always focused on the marine field with a multidisciplinary approach. In addition, I have various interests such as scientific diving, sailing, science communication and outreach activities.

My research focuses on the theoretical study of ecological and evolutionary systems from an interdisciplinary and dynamical perspective, integrating the biology and physics of these systems, using mathematical modelling and analysis, and computational simulation as main tools. Key words in my articles are often: population and community ecology, biodiversity, climate and environmental extremes, global change, stochastic processes, non-linear dynamics, self-organisation and complex systems. In recent years, my contributions have focused on two main topics: the influence of inherent and environmental stochasticity on the dynamics of infectious diseases, especially those transmitted by a vector; and the theoretical underpinning of models that seek to understand the factors controlling biological diversity at various spatio-temporal scales.

Graduated in Mathematics (USC) and Master in Advanced Mathematics and Mathematical Engineering (UPC), my scientific interests focus on the study of populations through dynamical systems. During my Master's thesis I focused on the analysis of a mosquito-human model for malaria. After that I decided to continue my training on this topic. Therefore, in my PhD I will study both the dynamics of mosquito-borne diseases and the vectors that transmit them. Introducing citizen science (Mosquito Alert) for data collection, as well as field data.

I graduated in biology at the University of Barcelona and joined CEAB in 2000. Since then I have focused my work on the study of marine systems on rocky substrate, as well as on habitat characterisation. I have also participated in the development of methodologies for the assessment of the ecological status of coastal water bodies within the implementation of the Water Framework Directive in Catalonia. Throughout these years I have incorporated geographic information systems into my work, which is currently an essential part of my job. In addition, I am currently collaborating in the 'Aliances Magnet' programme with the Institut Rocagrossa in Lloret de Mar, which aims to create links between science and the school's educational programme, as well as in studies of the flora of high mountain lakes.
